DATE: This workshop will run on 6th December – more dates in the new year – let me know if you’re interested.
Free machine (or free motion) embroidery is a way of drawing or painting with the sewing machine, only you move the “paper” (the fabric) instead of the “pencil” (the needle). It’s completely different from most other types of sewing skills, and although you don’t need to be particularly experienced to try it, I don’t think it would suit a complete beginner.
On the day I will show you some examples of different styles, and how to set up your sewing machine. I’ll then demonstrate the basics, and you’ll put some calico in an embroidery hoop and start “drawing” with your needle and thread.
After a break for lunch – please bring a packed lunch – you’ll start to work on either a couple of Christmas cards or a framed picture using the new techniques you’ve learned.
TIMES: 10am – 5pm. Tea/coffee and biscuits provided but please bring a packed lunch.
SEWING MACHINES: Either bring your own or use one of mine.
MATERIALS: I’ll provide calico and some threads but you’ll need to supply most threads plus a small picture frame with a card mount.
