Slow Stitching in the summer

Spend a summer week in sunny South Umbria slow stitching under the shade of our walnut tree, beside the pool, or anywhere else you fancy! Sipping wine, dozing, relaxing… slow down and stitch!

This holiday is 6 nights/5 days long, with 4 mornings (each morning 2-3 hours) – in the studio.

This holiday mainly concerns hand stitching and assumes limited experience in using sewing machine. If you’re interested and have never used – or don’t want to use! – a sewing machine, please contact me and I’ll explain how it can be avoided!

Techniques covered – there is a choice! – the decision is yours:

    • Hand embroidery
    • Boro work
    • Sashiko stitching
    • EPP (English Paper Pieced) patchwork
    • Goldwork

You can choose which 2 of these techniques you want to learn.

WHAT YOU WILL MAKE:

If you choose to learn:

    • hand embroidery, you can make a needle case and/or scissor case
    • EPP patchwork, you can make a drawstring bag, a scented hexagon or pincushion, perhaps start to make an infinity scarf
    • Gold work, you can make a kindle case or framed picture
    • Boro and sashiko, you can make a fabric basket/bag
    • Sashiko stitching, a kinchaku drawstring bag

Below is an example of how your week might be organised:

STUDIO MORNING 1 –  The morning in the studio begins with an introduction to your first chosen technique and I’ll teach you the skills you need to use on your project. You’ll then prepare the fabrics which you’ll be able to stitch in your own time in the course of the afternoon/following day/s.

STUDIO MORNING 2 – Another morning in the studio learning your second chosen technique and then preparing fabrics for independent hand-stitching.

STUDIO MORNING 3 – This morning in the studio you’ll make up one of your projects – so the hand-stitching on one of them needs to be finished by today.

STUDIO MORNING 4 – In the morning, in the studio, you’ll make up your second product.
